Ray and Charles
48.5 " h x 33.5" w
These beautiful fabrics came to me as samples from a contemporary furniture store. I chose the bright colors because they remind me of mid-century modern. The title refers to designers Charles and Ray Eames. Since Ray's name always follows Charles's I thought her name must come first for once. The orange border is Herman Miller fabric given to me by two sisters who were clearing out their late mother's fabric stash. The quilt is tied with thread.

67.5 " h x 57" w
At a critique I was encouraged to look at the irregular patterns of Gee's Bend quilts. I quickly found one that I loved made by America Erby in 1970 or 1971. She used dashiki cloth and I used an English print fabric that I have had on hand for at least forty years. The quilt is hand quilted in the blue pieces.

This quilt includes blue and light grey fabric prints I impulsively purchased at an American Quilter's Society (AQS) show. The clay colored fabrics were found at estate sales. The quilt reminds me of patterned fabrics created by cultures around the world. The quilt is hand quilted in selected areas.
